Is That So | 'Autumn Do' by Deborah Grevett

April 3, 2014

Autumn – Winter blues?  Let’s help those blues by giving your hair a makeover! The best time of the year to do it is now.

Get into a salon and be the first to rock out a fresh new look!

And if you’re in Sydney – come visit me at my salon Papillion in Paddington.

I’m going to give you some tips to revamp your hair and give you a change subtle or solid that’ll make people notice.

First and foremost, you need to pick a new hairstyle that suits you and make a decision in consultation with a trusted and honest Hair Dresser! Don’t want to be the one to break it to you, but there’s really no point in going to your hairdresser with a picture of Jennifer Lawrence and saying ‘I want that’ when you have total different features, colouring, and bone structure.

Secondly, I’m here to tell you – there’s a serious retro revival in 2014!

Make an instant style statement with a new fringe.  You’ve got the options of having blunt-cut bangs, side-swept locks, or a peek-a-boo fringe.

Check out Marie Claire’s  – Hairstyle Inspiration fringes where they’ve rounded off some of the coolest fringe styles.

It’s also always good to cut off some length and give your hair more spunk!  My all time favourite is a chic french bob, or longer version called a lob.

Then there’s the colour!  Being a blonde myself, I know it’s great to warm up your colour by adding lowlights, warmer tones and a clear shine gloss – giving you a deeper, darker and sexier look for Autumn – Winter.

For our Brunettes, it’s about going richer, shinier and even adding some warmth on the right skin tone.

Red heads should also lean toward deeper and richer, with an abundance of colour – think poison ivy!

For those with original natural hair with no colour, do a clear shine gloss, or a semi, giving extra shine to your naturally colour and a nice boost and rejuvenation to dulling hair as a result of the summer.

Lastly but most importantly, try a hair masque hydrating treatment – it’s a must!. They’re the best and what I use in my salon including one by Original mineral – Moisture Masque.

Your hair is always dry, shapeless and sun bleached by the time summer is over.  This masque hydrating treatment will put shine, bounce, and moisture back into your hair. It’ll bring out your new hairstyle and allow for longer lasting colour.

I definitely recommend you have one when you next visit the salon after a cut/colour. You can then maintain it yourself at home weekly until your next visit to the salon.

See! No more winter blues if you take my advice! You’re going to look and feel fabulous, oh, and so is your hair!
